‘Back It Up’: Its Message

‘Back It Up’ draws out and sets the foundation of its message. Clearly labelling the difference between enjoying someone’s company and being excessively intense too early on.

The single uses a unique blend of muddy and resonant bass beats, along with harmonious and divine vocals. Leaving the listener in moments where CAii’s beautiful vocals are left to carry them above the clouds, then suddenly drag them back down with its moody beat.

CAii’s ‘Back It Up’ comes from her exploration into how important personal identity is. Both for her and many young women in today’s society. Sometimes relationships can be very demanding and can hinder them. To the point where you have to say that enough is enough. ‘Back It Up’ is the result of this decision being made: sassy, resolute & indisputable.

Who Is CAii?

Hailing from Manchester, CAii is a singer, songwriter and producer. Her music can be described as defiant, outspoken, autobiographical pop music. Tackling topics from mental health and toxic relationships, to her experiences as a young woman living in a modern world.

Taking influences from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana and Banks, she began writing songs from a young age. A habit that would soon become a daily occurrence. Using it as a way for her to express and channel her emotions during difficult stages throughout her life.

After finally deciding to pursue a career in music, CAii began working with a range of producers in a traditional pop direction. During the process, she began to feel stifled and wanted to gain more creative control in her music. Which led her to enrol in the School of Electronic Music in Manchester in 2018 to study Music Production and Business. CAii has been honing her skills within the studio ever since.

Using the skills she picked up she went on to produce her debut single, a cover of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’. This would go on to garner over fourteen thousand views on the Loku Youtube channel.

Having played Sundown Festival, Dot to Dot & Indie Week, CAii is fully at ease when performing on stage. Using her talent to connect to her audience on an emotional level, drawing them into her world.
