Following the release of ‘Air Conditioned Gypsy’, Darling BOY has struck gold with his latest outing. Just over 3 minutes, ‘Golden Number’ is filled to the brim with lustrous harmonies and vintage guitar tones – Out Now!
Inspired by a tale of fate, changing fortunes and finding yourself at a time when the odds are stacked against you; ‘Golden Number’ is a song about luck, just when it feels like it’s all running out…
With venues and live events closing world-wide, 2020 has been the year from hell for those in the creative arts, and like many creatives, Darling BOY found his world turned upside down.
Faced with great uncertainty for the future of his career and with pressures mounting from some personal troubles at home, DB (real name Alex Gold) decided to put everything into his art instead. Taking the troubles that were weighing him down and transforming them into a platinum style of pop, Gold hit upon ‘Golden Number’; a winning new track that immediately felt like his fortunes were about to change.
After being on tour on the other side of the world, Alex found himself isolating during lockdown – a slightly different environment than he’s used to. To keep him occupied and sane, Carol Harrison delivered a Gretsch White Falcon to him, and then ‘Golden Number’ was born.
It’s undoubtedly not too bold or brash a statement to suggest that Darling BOY is perhaps one of the most intriguing and precocious young men in popular music today. Darling BOY is an entirely self-taught multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and actor. He’s starred alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the feature film London Town, playing The Clash’s drummer Topper Headon – and has more recently been named as the Musical Director of the smash-hit musical ‘All Or Nothing’ in London’s West End, having played Ian ‘Mac’ McLagan of Small Faces and The Faces.
To add even more to his long list of achievements, he’s also part of the United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra, been a guest of Dolly Parton in deepest Tennessee and has been asked to join two, (yes, two), of The Libertines main man Carl Barât’s bands. He’s been a member of Joey Ramone’s favourite band of all time, got talked out of setting up a London squat by Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and been taken out for dinner by Moby. Gold also recently joined Supergrass’ Danny Goffey’s new band, switching between bass, guitar and drums.
Despite the highlights of his career so far, it’s creating music that spurs Alex on, and Darling BOY is the vehicle that finds him well and truly in the driving seat. One of the UK’s most promising rising solo artists, Darling BOY, has released a series of must-hear singles in 2020, with new single ‘Golden Number’ the unmissable latest addition.
