We locked horns with EmuBands to find out more about their service , what they provide and to work out the clear benefits to independents in the industry.

EmuBands formed in 2005 with the aim of providing an efficient, affordable and easy-to-use digital music distribution service for artists and record labels to sell music online. EmuBands is a powerful, yet simple to use, low-cost digital music distribution service that allows artists and record labels to get their music on the World’s leading digital retailers like iTunes, Spotify, Amazon MP3, 7 Digital, Deezer and Xbox Music and many others, for just a simple, onetime fee, which is great! Not having to pay any renewal charges to keep your music on sale and you’ll get ongoing support from your named account manager. This onetime fee also includes distribution to all retailers that they add in the future.

We laid down some questions to the Emu team, here’s what we found out.

Q. EmuBands has been helping the independents for years, what sets you apart from other digital solutions?
A. EmuBands has a simple pricing structure – we charge a one-off fee for distribution, and return 100% of the royalties. You know exactly how much we are going to cost, and can rest assured that you won’t be charged any fees in the future while receiving all royalties you make on your music.

Q. Expel the myth; you guys aren’t from Australia are you?

A. No, we are definitely Scottish!

Q. Does Emu have further plans to offer other features or better the existing functionality?

A. We are working towards a new admin area for our customers, which will be ready in the near future. EmuBands labels and artists will see a real difference inside their accounts, with new features such as direct links to contracts where their music is on sale, and improved analytics when viewing royalty earnings. We have been gathering feedback from our customers over the past months and we are taking this into consideration for the new developments.

Q. We see Emu as a great method of saving time & money, this is what Music Gateway equally does, do you feel this is why we complement each other?

A. EmuBands provide a powerful and simple tool to allow artists and labels to get their music online. This mirrors Music Gateway’s service, providing a great simple tool to connect artists and industry professionals, globally. Both platforms save the user time and money, and equally help them to take the next steps in their music careers.

Q. If the Emu staff could take one ALBUM with them into space to endlessly listen to, what would it be?

A.

Ally (Managing Director) – Pink Floyd ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’

Stuart (Operations Director) – Neil Young ‘Harvest’

Suzie (Artist Relations Manager) – Foo Fighters ‘One By One’

Paul (Label Relations Manager) – Manic Street Preachers ‘The Holy Bible’

Since the start of EmuBands they have distributed tens of thousands of tracks to the world’s leading digital music services. Having worked with thousands of artists so far, they have had well known artists come on board and use their services, including Glasvegas, Twin Atlantic, Paul Weller and Leona Lewis, having also distributed 20 top 75 UK singles, including 11 in the top 40 and 3 in the top 10.

EmuBands let you stay in control, providing you with 24/7 access to your royalties with you being able to request payment at any time, with no minimum threshold. EmuBands won’t take a percentage of your royalties and will pass on to the user 100% of the royalties paid by retailers for your sales. You’re able to select the retail outlets you want your music to go on, then your release will stay on these outlets until you tell them to remove it – with no take down fees, making you stay in control of your music with EmuBands.

Despite charging just a one off fee, EmuBands are always there to offer ongoing support and advice whenever the customer needs it. They assign you with a named account manager that you can speak to over the phone, via e-mail or by live chat. As well as providing advice on issues specifically related to the users release, they also offer general music industry advice drawing from their wealth of experience.

To help the user maximise their release, EmuBands offer a range of additional services to help them get the most from their release, like registering it for the Official Charts in the UK, USA, Canada and Ireland.
