Rapper, trombonist, producer and songwriter TA3 has crafted his latest offering ‘Cry’ with two goals in mind. Firstly, to detail his experience as a black man in America, and secondly to encourage black males to find power in the expression of their emotions.
Speaking about the track, TA3 says:
“Although some people might think they know about experiences of black people in America, they can never fully understand what it’s like to be an object of the world’s hatred. We’re subjected to violence and degradation, but within our communities we are taught to simply deal with it. As a black male, crying is seen as a form of weakness. Little black boys grow and become misguided black men when they aren’t allowed to fully process their emotions.
“I want my listeners to know there’s power in their vulnerability. Your emotions matter, and it’s important that you take the time to process different circumstances as they occur. True strength lies in the ability to confront how you feel.”
TA3 channels the bars of Mos Def, the groove of Outkast and the soul of Loyle Carner. Overlaid with sadly soulful trombone, ‘Cry’ demonstrates effortless musicianship with an introspective lyrical flair.
Born in Trenton and raised in Lumberton, New Jersey, TA3 has been writing and lyrics and performing for a decade.
He started rapping in 5th grade when his dad and brother installed a home studio. In the same year, his music teacher introduced him to the trombone. Needless to say, they’ve been inseparable ever since.
In addition to curating his own events, TA3 has performed in a variety of ensembles, including the All-South Jersey Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Western Burlington County Honors Band. In 2018, TA3 began to study at Berklee College of Music. He is currently completing his bachelor’s in Performance & Music Business, specialising in Music Technology.
TA3 wholeheartedly believes in music’s transformative power. He wants to inspire people to work hard to reach their potential, actively using music as a platform to dismantle harmful stereotypes and prejudices.
He knows how to hold an audience spellbound with his trombone or mesmerize them with his slick bars – and he is certainly one to watch in the months to come.
TA3 releases ‘Cry’ on all streaming platforms on the 28th of August.
