Apple Music Reaches 15 million Subscribers via Music Business Worldwide
It’s clear that streaming is beginning to take over the industry. This week Apple Music announced that they’d reached the 15m subscribers point – whoa. While this sounds like a lot, it’s around half of Spotify’s subscribers, according to their most recent figures.
A lot of artists have had their say on the topic of streaming, most famously Taylor Swift disagreeing with Apple Music’s free trial. However, Apple claim that almost a billion ($964m) dollars from their revenue goes to the rights holders every year. This might be the case if everyone was paying the standard $9.99/month, but there are many offers and differing prices across all the territories that they operate in, so in actual fact this figure is much lower. Spotify’s equivalent figure is $1.5bn/year so Apple have got some catching up to do! You can read more here

Seems like yesterday that our CEO Jon was out in LA… Well this week he’s back out there working his socks off to get you guys more amazing opportunities.

Steve Reid Innovation Award – Applications Open
Our partners PRS for Music have teamed up with the Steve Reid Foundation to provide an incredible opportunity for emerging artists. They’re offering support in the form of a grant of up to £1,500 to help with their creative goals and receive mentoring from an experienced working artist. They’re looking for unsigned and unmanaged artists who are writing and performing their own music and pushing musical boundaries to apply.

Laika Network Launch Original Song Contest
Our friends over at Laika Network have launched a pretty wicked competition. All you need to do is submit a video of you performing an original song. Yes that’s it! The only rule is no covers. The competition closes on 26th June 2016 so you’ve got plenty of time to get things perfect. You can find more details here
