We were glad to have recently caught up with Shelli-i who is a project of an alternative rock singer-songwriter. She was recently signed to a label in Germany (Motor). Her music is a blend of alternative rock with electronic elements and unique vocal style. We discussed what seems to be working in the music industry, the main advantage of new connections and how to stay proactive in order to utilise technology to advance your career.
#1 Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
I am a Russian origin singer/songwriter in indie pop/rock.
#2 How’re you enjoying the platform, what benefits have you noticed so far?
I am really enjoying the platform as it offers many opportunities for musicians like me in various fields – production, licensing, and networking with other musicians. All jobs posted are relevant and have a precise time frame which is really valuable. I have regular updates on new jobs in which I might be interested by email, so I run through them quickly almost daily.
#3 Can you tell me a bit about your most recent project, are any of the results being released anytime soon for people to check out?
I was recently signed to a German alternative music label Motor Records with the help of the site. Last week I released my debut EP through them. You can listen to my music at my website here
#4 What is your inspiration behind your work?
I find inspiration in my everyday life and in traveling to new places. Also, I think I get stimulated by other pieces of art.
#5 The industry has changed and developed over the years. What is something you’ve noticed is continuously working in the music industry and is here to stay?
I think what is working is your persistence in achieving your goals and ability to see a big picture. Like you should constantly be monitoring what happens around and how your project is up to the level of the other players in the music industry.
#6 What are the main advantages for you with running projects through the platform as opposed to working with existing connections?
I can always rely on the platform to set deadlines for the projects and to send me info on time whereas when I am working with existing connections I run bigger risks on deadlines.
#7 What advice would you give to other members looking to utilise the site to aid their career?
I would suggest to try every opportunity the platform offers and to keep trying. It would always work in the end of the day!
