We were having a chat in the office about the Workspace this week and realized that we really don’t shout about this part of the platform enough. Anyone who’s heard about Music Gateway knows that you can connect with people from all corners of the music industry through the site. Not everybody is aware; however, that you can do all your work through the site once you’ve connected with anyone from anywhere. So, in light of this realization, we thought it only appropriate to write a blog informing you of everything you need to know about this unique part of the site.

It’s free to pitch
Before we start on the Workspace, one of the great things about the site is that we don’t charge you to pitch on projects. With a free account you get 5 pitches a month and with a pro level account you have an unlimited amount of pitches. This means that unless you get work, you won’t lose money.
What is a Workspace?
It is a cloud-based system which allows people to work remotely from anywhere in the world. It allows the project owner to manage their workers, share multiple files and communicate in one central location.
Access to each Workspace is only provided to a worker once a project owner has accepted a user’s pitch.
Project owners can view all workers and their respective files and submissions. However, a user who has been accepted into the project can only view their own files and the files owned by the project owner. This avoids any conflict of interest between the working parties.
What’s great is that the Workspace is accessible 24/7 for 365 days a year. As long as you have Internet access, then you can access your projects at any time!
You can upload any type of file to the Workspace. Whether it’s video, audio or any other files format such as documents and images.
We provide cutting edge tools, such as timeline audio & video feedback, allowing you to drag and drop comments at any time within the file. Not only does this make critique and communication a breeze, it also improves quality and speeds up turnaround times.
Note: Only the project owner has access to view all the workers files, but is restricted to .MP3 versions within the browser to protect the workers master files until the completion of the project.
This page collects and archives any messages that are sent and received from all parties within the Workspace.
Project Owner’s can send group or individual messages to anyone working on the project. A worker can view their entire conversation with the project owner at any time; this provides a clear track record of any communication and negotiations, reducing the risk of confusion over what was agreed.
Having a central place to manage your project communication saves an unbelievable amount of time.
Payments can be a really long-winded and stressful process in this industry, so it was a breath of fresh air when all I had to do was press a couple of buttons to withdraw the funds in my account. Simplicity is always a gift. – Little Tokyo
Apart from the ease that the Workspace provides during the creation process the added bonus of working through the site. Project owners can only access .MP3 versions of audio files until the completion of the project when they then receive the master files. However, they cannot receive these unless the agreed budget is paid to the owner of the master files. This means that files and payments on both ends are protected until the process is completed.
