Khalysis [CA-LEE-SIS], formerly known as LIV’n’G, are a musical duo, made up of sisters Olivia and Georgia. The pair hail from Hartlepool in Northern England, and have managed to build a supportive fanbase throughout the UK.
I was interested to read that their new stage name, derives from meanings such as Queen, Warrior, Powerful and Loving. A fitting choice, I feel, to reflect their support of women in the music industry, and in all aspects of their lives.
Georgia produces all of the duo’s tracks, and is entirely self-taught. Olivia is a songwriter and accomplished vocalist. Together the pair have played to crowds of up to 55,000 people, including for BBC Radio, and 2019’s Pride events – where they quickly became a fan favourite.
After hearing their 2020 release ‘For One Night’ I understand how the sister-duo have built such a strong fan base. I instantly found myself dancing at my desk, and scouring spotify for more of their work!
Firstly, this fun, flirtatious hit showcases Georgia’s masterful production skills. I quickly became fond of the upbeat electro and R’n’B inspired track. The instrumental is packed with guitar riffs, drum sets and the like, ready to hook you in.
While the instrumental alone could be an instant club hit, for me, it’s the pair’s simple yet meaningful lyrics that capture the essence of a long-lasting pop act.
Female empowerment is clearly important to Khalysis. I could hear this message throughout the entirety of the song. Confidence seems to be the theme of this track, as their sassy lyrics warn “All of the boys call me spicy, do you wanna try me?”.
I was touched to read about the duo’s charity single ‘Smile for Bradley‘ that was released in 2017. Though it is their highest charting song, peaking at number 4 in the UK Charts, their real success lies in the track’s meaning. Georgia and Olivia’s aim was to honour young cancer patient Bradley Lowery, and raise money for others across the UK. Bradley Lowery has since then, sadly passed. The girls’ touching track pays tribute to his memory, featuring his primary school friends, other cancer patients, and survivors.
Recently, Khalysis have kept up the momentum. For instance, their release of similar upbeat track ‘Do It For Me’ at the end of last year. They are also working on music with fellow artists. Composing more of their catchy melodies, for producers across the globe. One of their recent achievements includes being selected by Songland UK (out of 600 songwriters) to pen ‘Promise You The Stars’, for British artist John Newman.
