At Music Gateway, we’re excited to announce the development trio behind the company ‘Apps for Musicians’ are releasing an app that will solve your everyday conflict with creating the perfect artwork to accompany online releases. Introducing… TAD.
TAD is a Thumbnail Art Design app to aid musicians in avoiding the fog that surrounds graphic design and the hassle of learning to efficiently use Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. It is designed to help musicians in creating quick, professional and affordable artwork to accompany their online music releases. Developed by Lee Jones, Paul Coleman and Ian Clifford – an app developer, indie musician, and music business executive, who came together to create apps that solve everyday problems for musicians.
TAD allows the user to start from scratch with their own photo/logo/artwork or choose from a variety of classic album cover templates. Users can add text from a large selection of fonts, add artwork elements, frames and filters to give their cover a unique style. They are then able to export at the relevant resolution to their desired platform (iTunes, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, etc.). They’re also in app purchases where you can purchase more fonts and artistic elements.
We test drove the app earlier and were amazed at how quick and easy it is to use, and why there was nothing already available in the app store that simplifies this process for musicians. It took us a matter of minutes to upload the Music Gateway logo, add the text we wanted for our imaginary ‘debut album’, throw in some artistic effects and some filters which we thought matched our edgy style. The finished product was a professional looking album sleeve ready to export where we wanted it. There will no doubt be some of you who will be a lot more creative with your templates than us so who knows what gems TAD could help you create.
Whilst the app was easy to use and had more than enough options and pathways we could have chosen, we know some of you will have more specific needs. TAD can access your camera, but an iPhone photo or selfie may not necessarily provide the best press shot to represent your music. This is where a professional photographer and graphic designer will still play an important role. In this scenario TAD will act as an effective tool to experiment with your ideas, and a graphic designer can be found on Music Gateway to bring these ideas to life. You’ll be able to upload your TAD designs to your Music Gateway profile or as reference files on a project, providing potential candidates with a visual idea on what you want all within a matter of minutes. No more late night study sessions spent on YouTube desperately trying to perfect the art of Photoshop to get a professional looking album sleeve.
TAD will be available in the app store for free from the 1st – 14th December 2015 and will cost $1.99 / £1.99 / €1.99 thereafter. TAD requires iOS 7.0 or later.
