New Digital Music Initiative Helps Fight Feelings of Isolation and Depression

#MyHappySong is a collaborative initiative started by three friends to spread positive mental health through music during these trying times.

Music Is Therapy

In autumn, 2019, with the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK being suicide along with the unexpected loss of his best friend, James, Jordy Meanwell, founded L;fe to promote conversations to stop the numbers from growing.  Jordy believes “music is a therapy. It is a communication far more powerful than words. Music has the ability to speak to us in a way nothing else can. It has the power to improve our mood and unite people.”

What Is #MyHappySong

With the onset of COVID 19, Jordy, along with music industry professionals George Godfrey (Alt Disco/Radio X) and Kali Bradford (Lovers Music), created #MyHappySong to offer support.

#MyHappySong helps spread positive mental health by bringing together different bands to record the song that helps them through the difficulties of isolation, negative news and the inability to interact with others during this difficult time.

After the first week, Radio X presenter, John Kennedy said that #MyHappySong “was really exciting and had some great material. Well worth looking up and following the campaign.”

Some of last week’s 30+ artists included WhenYoung, Broken Hands, Wild Front, Life and Radio X presenter, Gordon Smart.

How To Get Involved

To be a part of #MyHappySong, chose a social media platform and using your preferred format (cover, short video explainer or post) share the song that helps you stay positive. Please post your choice with the hashtag #MyHappySong and @LifeMentalHealth, @Loversmusic and @AltDisco_. Also, please remember to tag the original artist of the song you are covering. Also please tag Music Gateway as we’d love to support you and see who gets involved! (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook)
