The iconic Mark James is an American singer-songwriter who has been writing and performing music since the early 1970s. He is best known for writing the Elvis Presley hits “Suspicious Minds” and “Always on My Mind”. James has also written songs for Bobby Womack, Willie Nelson, and many other popular artists.

During the late 1960s, James was signed on as a staff songwriter to Chips Moman’s publishing company based in Memphis. In 1968, James put out his rendition of “Suspicious Minds” on Scepter Records, which was produced by Moman.

In 1969, Elvis Presley recorded a version of the same arrangement and it became a major success. It was even included on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time at no. 91.

In 1973, American Country singer Brenda Lee recorded James’ song “Sunday Sunrise”. 1975, Canadian musician Anne Murray covered “Sunday Sunrise,” a song that had already become a top ten single on multiple charts in the U.S. due to Brenda Lee’s version.

In addition to his songwriting, James is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. He is proficient in guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. He has released several solo albums and continues to tour and perform live.
