The Director, Music Licensing is responsible for providing ongoing relationship management to The Octave Group’s key music publishing and record label partners.

You will champion stakeholder alignment across all key business units, provide short and long-term strategic intelligence, and analysis to the global music programming, licensing, royalties and product development divisions

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage internal relationships and collaborate across the business on music rights, payment, reporting, systems enhancements and programming performance
  • Own day-to-day management of strategic partnerships with global music publishers and record labels , as well as HFA. 
  • Oversee implementation of and contribute to negotiation of publisher and label license deals
  • Partner with music royalties to ensure licensor account and copyright information is accurate
  • Collaborate with Music Programming and Marketing to secure necessary rights for specific promotions 
  • Manage a team of licensing experts and provide training for new departmental procedures and workflows
  • Manage contract administration process to ensure the business operates in full compliance with license terms
  • Proactively provide the functional leads with the insights and knowledge needed to drive decisions and define effective strategies for our licensing infrastructure, asset management, and music publishing rights management tools
  • Consistently develop and lead strategies to enhance the licensing process whether from a systems perspective or industry-facing initiatives
  • Prepare and present data-centric reports to internal teams, external clients and be able to talk through them, spot trends.  
  • Develop and provide key licensing insights for various presentations for Leadership Team, external clients, internal departments.
  • Lead and/or add to internal presentations on music licensing requirements for Sales, Sales Support, Client Management
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in music licensing, business development, data analysis, and rights management with an international focus
  • Varied music licensing experience at or across an array of a Record Label, Music Publisher, and/or Digital Music Service Provider
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office especially Excel, Word, Access, Salesforce and various native database systems
  • Experience negotiating music agreements with music publishers and record labels
  • Experience with data presentation and data storytelling
REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
  • Understanding of key digital music issues and trends in rights management, including collective rights organizations and publisher / label relationships
  • A fluency with, or willingness to learn, technological concepts, financial models, and product features
  • Experience supervising a team and third-party vendors with an emphasis on developing and overseeing best practices and competitive policies and procedures
  • Interface regularly with senior management on tactical and strategic priorities with the necessary levels of confidentiality
  • Excellent math, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and solution-oriented with an ability to prioritize workload, independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • Some travel may be required
