Bio

To change your reality, it is certainly true that one must first change their mentality. Genista, born Okimo Cameron is certainly one person who is now shaping his own destiny regardless of his "humble" beginnings.

Okimo started his life's journey on March 18, 1994. One of six children, he grew up with both parents who did not have it easy getting employment. Due to this he states that; he had a hard time in his community. His parents tried their best but could not fully afford to send him to school. This caused Okimo to take to hustling on the streets trying to fill the gap that was caused. Regardless of how hard his mother and father searched, work was scarce with their limited resources, and skill set. At nights Okimo was advised to pray for a better tomorrow by his mother, and that's what he did.

God answered his prayers in a mysterious way, and even though the prayers were not answered with food to fill their bellies instantly. Okimo found his talent for music in short order.

Getting an old computer and a mixing software, Okimo started playing around with it until he started creating beats he could sing and Dj on. Putting on his cape, Okimo slowly transformed into the hero Genista. The man who uses music to reach his people and, lift himself and his family out of poverty.

Genista is a quiet, loving, honest and humble individual, but is very studios to the music industry. Though his parents are his biggest inspiration. Genista still loves the music of other artists such as Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, Squash, Chronic Law, Jada Kingdom, Lady Saw, Spice, Mavado And Many More.

These days Genista is being managed by Temple Swing Records. Under this team he has managed to release singles such as;
Trapped Inside, Jodii, GPG, Choppa, Caribbean Queen, Quarantine, Growth, Options, Family First, Timing, Lover, Confuse And More

Genista's goal is to make his parents proud by being the best he can be at his work. He aims to be one of the great dancehall and reggae icons not only in singing, but also by producing, and making beats.
