The First Tramline Festival

The inaugural Tramlines festival took place in 2009, featuring prominent artists like Rolo Tomassi, Just Jack, Toddla T, Pixie Lott, Little Boots, Example, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, and The XX. Reverend and The Makers headlined the event. With an impressive turnout of 35,000 fans, the festival was a resounding success.

The festival was lauded by the organizers, councilors, and residents of Sheffield. Its popularity and favorable reviews paved the way for the announcement of the 2010 event. Attendees had to line up to receive wristbands, which granted them entry to various stages.

The festival was held at more than 70 locations and four primary stages in the city center, such as Devonshire Green, The Leadmill, The Viper Rooms, The Fat Cat, O2 Academy Sheffield, Barkers Pool, The University of Sheffield, The Harley, The Bowery, the Peace Gardens and Yellow Arch. Additionally, Ponderosa Park’s main stage had a capacity of 8,000 until 2017.

In January 2018, it was revealed that the festival would be relocated from the city center to Hillsborough Park in Sheffield, featuring four stages inclusive of a main stage. This new location would accommodate approximately 40,000 attendees at the main stage, although this capacity was subsequently decreased to 30,000 for the festival in 2019.
