Amy Rose Allen is an American songwriter, record producer, and singer.
Amy Rose Allen was born and raised in Windham, Maine. She was surrounded by music from a young age, as her father was a professional musician and her mother was a music teacher. She began playing the piano at the age of five and started writing her own songs at the age of ten.
Growing up, Amy was inspired by a variety of musical genres, including folk, country, blues, and rock. She also had a deep love for the outdoors, and spent much of her time exploring the natural beauty of Maine.
“I started playing music when I was eight,” she recalls. By the time she was 10 years old, Amy was writing songs. For more than a decade Allen wrote uniquely for herself, honing her skills as a five-tool player, becoming a writer, a producer, a player, and a performer. She enrolled at Berklee College of Music, known for illustrious alumni such as John Mayer and Quincy Jones. Post-graduation, she launched herself into New York, forming an upstart band, Amy & The Engine.
In 2015, Allen was featured in Teen Vogue, after releasing two solo EPs. Allen began her career by working on a number of solo projects and formed Amy & The Engine, a four-piece indie pop-rock group, before relocating to New York for a year. The band released their first single “Last Forever” on February 14, 2015. TandeMania, their debut EP, was released on September 22, 2016.
But Amy’s life took a twist when she met Scott Harris, a songwriter and producer for Shawn Mendes, Dermot Kennedy, and Taylor Swift. He opened her eyes to the world of pop writing for major artists. Dazzled by her talent, Scott became her mentor. He had never represented another songwriter before, but Amy inspired him to launch a publishing company so that she could become his first signing.
She has been known to say, “I just wanna write songs that cut through and connect and make me feel like I’m on fire. I have my own outlet again.”
She is known for being a songwriter for artists such as Rosé, Harry Styles, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, and Pink Sweat$.
She was nominated for the first-ever Grammy Award for Songwriter of the Year at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for her work on releases by King Princess, Alexander 23, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter.
Allen has cited bands like The Cranberries and The Cure as influences on Amy & The Engine.
