What Is The Wychwood Festival?

An annual celebration of music, arts, and culture, Wychwood Festival is an annual three-day event that takes place in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK. The festival is known for its diverse lineup of music, arts, and cultural performances, as well as its family-friendly atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

The new home within Cheltenham Racecourse means that there will no longer be walks between the campsite and arena.

Location and History

Wychwood Festival started in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular festivals in the UK. The festival takes place in the beautiful Cheltenham Racecourse, which provides a stunning backdrop for the event. The festival grounds are surrounded by rolling hills and green fields, making it the perfect location for a weekend of music and relaxation.

The Wychwood Music Festival was launched with the aim of creating an intimate and thrilling weekend festival experience featuring the best acts of the day, up-and-coming music, and unique programming. It quickly gained a national audience and reputation for its eclectic mix of music and creative programming.

‘An excellent hybrid of the Big Chill, WOMAD and The Cambridge Folk Festival.’ – TIME OUT

Wychwood 2022

After a brief interlude they finally made their triumphant return, having spent 2 years sitting at home thinking about nothing other than Wychwood they couldn’t wait to get back! As such they did so with a bang! They had the biggest year ever with thousands of smiling Wychwooders and it also featured the biggest line-up yet with headliners Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Levellers and Deacon Blue. Alongside them they had Boney M, The Selecter, The Undertones, Peter Hook & The Light, The South, The Real Thing, Dreadzone, Skerryvore, Doctor & The Medics, Lottery Winners, Tankus The Henge and so much more!

Taking place over the Jubilee weekend they had to move Basil Brush’s performance day so he could go sit on a bus through central London, a new one for them!

As ever they had a massive offering of activities, workshops, kids authors, wellness activities and more. I have to say, 2023 was just as big. They really delivered this year.

The festival also includes a dedicated children’s area, with a range of activities and entertainment for kids of all ages.

‘There were only good vibes on show throughout the weekend and with a family friendly focus there was enough to keep the kids entertained while allowing parents a bit of a break and some fantastic bands. It’s a relatively small festival and that suits it to the ground.’

Food

Food is important to get right at festivals because it is a major part of the overall experience for attendees. Good food can enhance the enjoyment of the event, while bad food can detract from it.

There were plenty of food trucks available for all the festival goers, such as the; The Crab Shack, Chockshop, Django’s Smokehouse, Feed The Village, “Oh Babu”, That’s Nacho Burrito, Churros Hermanos.
