Obtaining My First Sync | Matty Menck
We caught up with Matty Menck to ask him a few questions around his success with getting his music into some gaming apps!
Was this your first sync?
This one was my first sync ever since I have started my membership with Music Gateway some years ago.
Sophie from M.G. called me and explained about the possibility to place two of my songs for a gaming app.
We have quickly cleared the rights situation and everything went quite quick and professional, including the first initial payment.
What is your funniest/favourite memory in the music industry?
One of the biggest moments was the phone call from the label that we got 2 songs simultaneously in the top ten of German sales charts.
That was a huge surprise because nobody had expected this. And to be honest, I realised much later what was going on. Because everything went pretty quick with no time to think about in that particular moment.
Another sweet one was the phone call and the big interest in one of my songs, from one of my favourite labels – Toolroom Records.
How did you feel when you heard about your sync placement?
This message about my first sync placement was pretty important to me because I had a slight doubt whether it really makes sense to spend time and continue to deal with M.G.
So how long have you been a member of Music Gateway and what do you think of us and the process of getting a sync?
I think it took me 4-5 years to get the first placement and that was the reason for my previous doubts.
But now I deal with the matter much more intensively and understand better and better how it all works.
My impression is that Music Gateway is a very dedicated company with a professional team. That is revoluting the conservative sync business with modern approaches into the future.
What would be your top tip to anyone trying to secure a sync placement?
I can recommend to everyone to take the time to put all relevant songs accurately in the M.G. sync library.
This is a time-consuming process depending on how many songs you have. However, I think it will pay off one day and the chance of sync placement is much greater than a jackpot at the National Lottery.
Additionally, I’m also still busy with importing my complete catalogue into the sync portal.
What are your plans for the near future?
Right now I am restructuring my workflow and studio environment in order to increase my output as quickly as possible.
Besides of my typical single releases, producing, mixing and mastering jobs. I would love to create more specialised content for the sync business.
I have so many ideas but unfortunately, often lack the time to realise and work them out.
