Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the most upfront, influential and educational event for electronic music. This event lasts for five days and nights, all the while bringing the whole city to life!
In this section, we will explain what sort of music you can be expecting to hear at ADE and a quick run-through of the sorts of things you can expect to see in the program. Let’s start with Music Genres.
So, what sort of music will you be listening to at the Amsterdam Dance Festival? By attending this unique event, you can expect to hear talent from the electronic music industry which will feature programming for music professionals, aspiring DJs, producers, musicians, tech start-ups, brand managers, and many more.
This includes other genres such as Techno, House, EDM, Trance as well as certain venues offering R&B, Hip-Hop and other alternative styles.
There will also be a variety of dance music-related exhibitions, films, documentaries, DJ showcases, gear master classes, and artist MusicTalks. This will all be taking place across the beautiful City of Amsterdam in historical locations and unique Amsterdam Dance Event venues.
Educate yourself in different ways by exploring around during the day time. Whether that’s wanting to teach yourself something new with a masterclass or take yourself round an exhibition. The city is your oyster!
The line-up for ADE is usually not released until the summer so it leaves you waiting on a bit of cliff-hanger and also allows more excitement to build up! Previous years saw massive DJ’s such as Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Gorgon City alongside some of the other biggest international names like Nina Kraviz, Seth Troxler, and Marcel Dettmann. We can’t even begin to imagine who they might have this year!
The festival was held online last year, 2020. Large dance parties couldn’t happen like they usually would due to the pandemic with all clubs, bars and restaurants closed!
Plan your travel in advance. Here we’ll be taking about which dates the festival will be taking place, outlined it in this section.
The festival will start on 13th October and finish on 17th October, meaning you get to live absolutely stress free for 5 whole days!
You can also purchase tickets for any of these days alone or for the whole ADE Dance Event across the 5 days. We will go into more detail about these tickets below.
The ADE Dance event takes place across the 5 main districts of Amsterdam. Public transport to and from the event is available or you can do it the real Amsterdam Way and use the bikes! The good thing about using the bikes is you can avoid traffic at all costs; meaning you will never be late to any of your ADE events or activities.
To reach the event you can use a Taxi. Depending on how long you are planning to stay for the festival or even if you want to extend your trip in Amsterdam; will probably determine the best and most cost-effective way for you to travel around the city. If you are traveling from further away or even overseas, there are usually special packages for flights and hotels on the ADE website, however, these are usually available closer to the time.
Here are some top tips on things you can consider before making your way to the Amsterdam Dance Festival. Being organised never hurts!
Make sure to also get a digital copy of your ticket for your phone as well as a paper copy in case of loss or damage! You don’t want to be missing out!
As this event is over a few days you will be exposed to loud, electronic beats. This can damage your hearing so make sure to look after yourself as well as enjoy the tunes!
Make sure to keep yourself hydrated.
You will no doubt be dancing and probably drinking a fair bit of alcohol (sensibly, obviously) so although this event is held in the cold, it’s important to keep yourself hydrated.
Now, we’re sure everything will be absolutely fine and you will probably never need this information, however it is best to know the Dutch emergency services number and the nearest ambulance or police location is. Just in case!
Although some places in Amsterdam do still use cash, places like public transport are completely cashless now. So, you will need a debit/credit card to purchase travel cards etc!

So, are you wanting to play at the Amsterdam Dance Event and showcase your talent? Usually the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation have a showcase application form online which artists would fill in if they were interested in participating. The artist would then be added to a database where bookers and event promoters would be able to book artists for ADE. Since the showcase application is primarily focused on offline performances, they have decided not to post this yet due to the recent COVID outbreak.
The Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation is the umbrella over the whole festival itself however, the line-up and production is arranged by the official ADE venue itself. Therefore they do recommend that you contact them directly to check interest and availability.
A few final words about the importance of the Amsterdam Dance Event. This event helps to showcase all artists’ music who feel they have unheard talents and bring all dance music lovers together! ADE welcomes diversity and culture and all its professionals, artists and fans into their festival and educational activities. Their aim as an organisation is to provide an equal platform which can also be a powerful medium that reflects and showcases global developments in electronic music.
So, if you want to get involved and learn by taking classes, watching films and seeing artist MusicTalks during the day, then heading over to Amsterdam’s most beautiful venues for DJ showcases during the night time then this is definitely the festival for you!
