The British Film Institute (BFI) is a registered charity governed by the Royal Charter and was founded back in 1933. Unlike many of the listed private film investors, the BFI is a cultural charity with initiatives such as “Film Fund” which uses National Lottery funds to develop and support original UK films and filmmakers and also widen their audiences. These different fund types can help you with production, development and distribution for example.

Film House Germany is based in Berlin and Los Angeles. The multi-faceted media company covers the development, financing, production and co-production of film and TV for audiences worldwide. Founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Christian Angermayer, Film House Germany is the parent company to two key production companies: Summerstorm Entertainment and Egoli Tossell Film.

Cinemakers develops, finances and produces successfully independent feature films, TV-Movies and TV-Series. Cinemakers not only finances and produces their own projects. Cinemakers is able to offer financial participation up to 25% of the total budget of an international feature film. Cinemakers’ co-financing is either pure equity investment or in the form of German co-production participation with German or European film subsidies and funds.

CINEFRANCE is the management team for two film production companies: CINEFRANCE and CINEFRANCE PLUS. They operate in the production of commercial and popular films with a budget of between 4 and 8 million euros, supported by major French and international directors, actors and producers.

Busan International Film Festival’s funding initiative aiming to support Asian independent films and documentaries. The ACF aims to provide practical assistance to talented directors in Asia, including Korea, in the production and completion of projects through such diverse support.

CCA offers selective support (financial grants and advances on receipts) on the basis of cultural criteria at various stages of a project: scriptwriting, development, production, completion, promotion and distribution.

Short-Form Open Call offers development and co-production funding to help you complete your short nonfiction film or series for distribution on public media’s web-based platforms. Stories of any subject will be considered, though we have a special interest in the following topics: Arts & Humanities, Criminal Justice, Disability, Health and Rural America.

The Diversity Development Fund gives producers of colour up to $25,000 in research and development funding so you can develop your documentary for air on public television. They accept pre-production nonfiction projects only.

This fund looks for stories that take risks, tackle important issues, address the needs of underserved audiences, and are seldom seen in public media. The documentary can be on any subject, viewpoint or style as long as it is in active production already, as evidenced via a ten to fifteen minute work in progress sample.

The Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund provides finishing funds to feature-length documentaries which highlight and humanise issues of social importance from around the world. The fund is geared towards feature documentaries, based anywhere, that are in production or post-production with no intended premiere exhibition date.

The fund supports film productions from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe, aims at making them visible worldwide and guarantees their distribution in Switzerland.

The Alter Cine Foundation focus on providing documentary film grants. The main focus is on films which go against the norm and voice the suppressed ones. The main motto is to spread the essence of tolerance towards the different notions.

Support independent nonfiction films that display artful film language, effective storytelling, originality and feasibility, contemporary cultural relevance, and potential to reach and connect with its intended audience. Submissions to the Documentary Fund are accepted year round, with decisions occurring three times per year.

The Hubert Bals Fund provides funds for extraordinary feature films as well as creative documentaries, directed by the filmmakers from developing countries. The main thrust is on the artistic value and aesthetic appeal of the films. It provides grants in various categories that often turn out to play a crucial role in enabling these filmmakers to realise their projects.

The Indian Film Industry is one of the largest in the world and Mumbai accounts for almost 60% of film productions. The Government of Maharshtra has started a scheme to provide financial assistance to Marathi film producers as incentive to produce quality Marathi Films.

The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission is set to begin fulfilling its mandate to make the province a film production centre. One of their goals is to promote and market the province as a global destination for film production. In 2014/2015, the KZNFC developed systems and policies to support and attract national and international roleplayers in the film industry.

Screen Australia offers funding to support the development, production and marketing of Australian screen content, as well as for the development of Australian talent and screen production businesses. They also offer support to people who are new to the screen industry, which is really useful for filmmakers who are early on in their careers.

The Natalie Miller Fellowship awards an annual grant of up to $20,000 to a woman working in the Australian screen industries who have demonstrated initiative, entrepreneurship and excellence and who have a personal professional development proposal that would assist her to reach her full potential in any field of the screen industry.

$35 million.

Premiere Pictures works with leading film specialists and producers in the UK and internationally to help with financing and co-producing. They have a team of qualified accountants and a professional media team with a successful track record in film production, funding and distribution. The Premiere group distributes productions in the UK through their company Bulldog Film Distribution. Recently, Premiere Picture have expanded into Video Games Investment beginning with indie video games studio Dream Harvest.

Their main goal is to increase the number of South African films and previously disadvantaged individuals producing them. Production funding is given for feature films, short films, and documentaries. In addition, the NFVF has set aside $1 million grant each year for the purchase of archive material for feature-length and hour-long documentaries.
